NEWS

Hey everybody! How’s it going? I hope that you
enjoyed a most excellent summer!

I’ve been working on deep relaxation out here in NM. It’s
going well and it has led to some consideration towards
creating music again. I just did an extended improvisation
on Facebook Live. If you have a Facebook account, you
can watch and listen HERE. I really enjoy improvising and
I think that the combination of a deep, relaxed state and
piano improvisation will create some really relaxing and
uplifting music.

Because the theme of this month’s newsletter is about
relaxing, I am offering the song “Relax”, from the Nighttime Piano for Relaxation
and Deep Sleep
album. It’s pretty easy to play
and I hope that you enjoy it.

You can hear “Relax” HERE.

Christine and I always sign off with the higher emotions
of Love, Peace, Joy, and Gratitude. So we had our good
friend Dave Newman, a Placitas artist, create a sign for
us that people see when they enter our house. Click on
the link above or the sign below to see more of Dave’s
wonderful art.

Sending love, peace, joy, gratitude
and good health from New Mexico~

Louis

NEWS

We are celebrating! Our monsoon season
started off this June with an amazing three
inches of rain! We are ecstatic! Everything
is greening up. For New Mexico, especially
after last year’s “nonsoon”, this is thrilling.
It  looks like more rain is on the way. With
the clouds that come from this type of
weather system, we are getting spectacular
sunsets. In the sunset photo above, Cabezon,
a volcanic plug, is off in the distance. In honor
of  these spectacular sunsets, I am offering
“Sweet Sunset”,  a sheet music single
download. You can hear “Sweet Sunset”

HERE.

I am considering the possibility of performing
concerts again in 2023. If you have leads on
concert venues with pianos, if you have
a piano and would like to host a house concert,
or if you would like to host a fundraiser for a non-
profit organization and would like to feature a
piano concert as a way to raise money,
please contact me.

Sending love, peace, joy, gratitude
and good health from New Mexico~

Louis

Two New Singles

“Conviction” was released on January 14, 2021. It is a single from the upcoming album, Provocative Piano

Recorded at the Peace Palace, Sedona, AZ on a Steinway B in September, 2020.

Conviction is a powerful song with two strong meanings. One meaning is being free from doubt, strongly believing that one is right. Certain. The other meaning is in law: a final judgement of guilty in a criminal case by a jury or a judge that results in some sort of fine or punishment. I was thinking about the political climate & different points of view.

It is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora Radio

It is also available for downloading at iTunesAmazon and Bandcamp

“Somber” was released on January 22, 2021. It is a single from the upcoming album, Provocative Piano

Somber is a contemplative piece about looking back into the shadowy part of one’s past. There is sadness, there is grief, there is love lost. It is a chance to reflect on the darkness and come to terms with it and let it go so that it doesn’t bring sadness into the present.

It is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora Radio

It is also available for downloading at iTunesAmazon and Bandcamp

Feel Good Piano Album Review

Feel Good Piano is Louis Landon’s 31st album and was inspired by the desire to help people feel good during these challenging times (and beyond). Warm and upbeat, the thirteen original piano solos are a celebration of the good things in life, some of which are easy to overlook and take for granted. Recorded on Landon’s Steinway B grand piano at The Peace Palace in Sedona, Arizona, the pace of the album is relaxed and optimistic, reflecting the multitude of musical influences and experiences that make Landon’s style unique and distinctive.

Feel Good Piano begins with “In the Flow,” a gentle piece with a flowing left hand pattern and a bright and carefree melody on the right. “Happy Valentine” is a sweet love song without words that envelops the listener like a warm hug. With the right attitude, “So Beautiful” could refer to just about anything if we take the time to notice. This quiet, graceful piece is a wonderful reminder. “Have a Nice Waltz” is fast waltz played mostly at the upper end of the piano, giving it a playful sound and the feeling of innocence. One of my favorites, “So Easy” has an effortless swing rhythm that makes me think of Louis’ “Excellent and better all the time!” motto. A slow jazz piece that seems to flow from the heart to the fingers, I really like this one! “Holiday Celebration” has a lively, swirling motion that feels like laughter and good times with family and loved ones. “Waves” is about the peaceful ebb and flow of a calm ocean, perhaps with sparkles of light dancing on the water and a warm, balmy breeze in the air – very relaxing! The hypnotic “Waterfall” keeps a steady rhythm with a repeating pattern on the left hand while the right hand captures the dancing flow of water as it cascades down to the pool at the bottom. Another favorite, the magical “Enchanted Forest,” expresses wonder and awe at all of the beauty discovered during a quiet walk through the forest. “On Our Way” could refer to a number of different things, but I hear the excitement and anticipation of heading into a new adventure – big or small. The album closes with “May Day Celebration,” a joyous ode to spring with an infectious energy that makes me think of laughter and fun in the sun.

Feel Good Piano is another great album from “The Pianist for Peace” and is available from www.louislandon.com, Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes, and streaming sites like Spotify.

New Single – “So Beautiful”

So Beautiful Cover

“So Beautiful” is the first single from the upcoming Feel Good Piano album, and was released on September 4, 2020.

Recorded at the Peace Palace, Sedona, AZ on a Steinway B in June, 2020

It is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora Radio

It is also available for downloading at iTunes, Amazon and Bandcamp

I have been writing music for 54 years. My guess is that I have written over 1,000 pieces in that time. “So Beautiful” feels like the most epic, emotional and all encompassing piece of music that I have written to date. It’s about life and all that being a human on the planet entails, including birth, love, a full life and leaving the body and the soul returning to pure energy at the end of the piece. I was channeling something very deep on this one. I am super happy with it. I hope you feel it!

Successful Spotify Experiment

For the past four months I have been releasing singles, one every two weeks, that would ultimately end up as the Heartfelt Solo Piano album. I released ten singles, one directly through Spotify. Today, with the release of “Heartfelt Solo Piano,” I checked my new album release on Spotify through the artist portal, and everything worked out. All of the singles that I had released, showed up on the album with all of the streams intact. This is a good reason to be sure that all ISRC codes are the same when releasing an  album containing previously released singles. Before doing this, I checked with Spotify and Tunecore to see if this was something that was going to work and they both said that it would. It was great to verify that their guidance was correct.

The one thing that I did immediately was to notify Spotify that I needed to pull the one single that I distributed through them. It is not possible to isolate the one single from the album and not have it distributed by Tunecore with the rest of the album. Going directly through Spotify with one of the singles was also an experiment. I thought that by going directly through Spotify, I might get some preferential treatment playlist wise or perhaps payment wise. Unfortunately, my experience with going through Spotify was not what I had hoped for. From calculations that I made through streams and payments on Tunecore, it appeared that I was paid less through Spotify. Also, that particular track didn’t do very well stream wise. It could have been that particular piece of music and there is no way to know for sure why it didn’t do very well. In any case, I am not going to go directly through Spotify again.

I am going to wait a while before pulling the ten singles from Tunecore distribution. There is no hurry really. I already paid for the year for those singles. One thing I am not sure of is whether a single that is on a playlist will stay there once it is pulled. I don’t have any way to verify that because two of the singles that were on Spotify playlists were temporary. One was on a classical playlist that featured new music and the other was on a jazz playlist of the same kind. Both were on and then off. None of the other singles that I had released were currently on a Spotify playlist other than radio, release radar or daily mix. I am going to keep an eye on those stats to see if anything changes as I systematically pull singles.

In two weeks I will begin releasing singles for my next album, Solo Piano Space Traveler.  I will try another experiment by picking up the pace and releasing a single each week. I have no idea if this will help me in any way, but I’m sitting on an album and I don’t want to wait four months to release it. At the same time, I want to maximize the use of Spotify in promoting singles. I don’t know how long I can keep up that up. Releasing a single a week will require a little more busy work. I’ll stay in radio contact.  😉
